James Carey Hunger

“Well done, good and faithful servant” Matthew 25:23

James Carey Hunger, of Barberton, Ohio, entered into the Lord’s embrace on February 9, 2026.

Known to his friends as Jim, he was born October 1, 1948.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson Steele and Elizabeth Hunger, and Brother and sister in law David and Betty Hunger. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Terry Hunger; sister, Janie Senderak; sons Tony (Star), Greg (Ginger), and Mike Hunger; grandchildren Lily, Brooklyn, Sedona and Jackson, along with many other beloved family members and friends.

Jim grew up in Barberton and graduated from BHS in 1966 before continuing his education at Kent State University, where he graduated in 1970 with his degree in education. Jim was a proud teacher and coach for Barberton City Schools for 35 years where he made lasting friendships and impacts on many students over the years. Jim was also very involved with First Lutheran Church in Barberton. He was a custodian and mentor for over 50 years. One of Jim’s favorite things was anything involving classic muscle cars. He was a member of the Magic City Cruisers for many years and always had a smile on his face when talking about cars!  The family would like to give special thanks to Ed Muffet and Officer Bob Velo, as well as others, that have contributed in helping with care and support for Jim over the last several months.

Friends may call on Friday, February 13th, 2026 from 4-6 pm, with a service directly following at 6 pm at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home at 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton OH 44203. A private burial will take place at a later date.
